December, 2008

I make some time to write about the progress in December.
Just before Christmas I have received two huge new parts deliveries from US.
First contains a lot of engine parts purchased at Summit racing - three big boxes full of parts.

I unpacked a new Edelbrock intake, Holley 600 cfm carburator , Com cams Magnum rocker arms, new water and fuel pump, Long exhaust headers, all new ignition system from Accel and a lot of other parts for completing the engine.

Big boxes I can hardly fit it in my luggage compartment in my car. I just unpacking what's hidden inside ?

Holley 600 cfm carburator Aluminum intake Edelbrock performer.
New3 inch headers. New Accel distributor.

Finally I have received a sheet metal parts for body work repair form Mustang unlimited.

A trailer full of parts for bodywork repairs.

Contains:
Both driver and passenger floor pans, trunk floor, taillight panel, rear outer wheelhouses , rear quarter panel, all new hood, rear bumper, some fender aprons under battery, new shocks KEYB-GAS

A lot of parts..... New hood.

At christmas time I received good news form my machine company that the block boring and head reconditioning is finished.

Fixing block int the car prior to transport home.

So on free week at Christmas I started to prepare the engine assembly. I plan to paint the engine blue first. I used wire brushes to clean the block and heads. cleaned all oil and water passages again. I masked everything what do not needs to be painted. I used a blue thermal resistant 2K paint (up to 600 degrees). I sprayed couple of layers on the block, heads and timing cover. Once the paint had dried I oiled combustion chambers with oil to prevent rust before final assembly. I plan to assembly engine in February probably. I am not sure whether to do an engine balancing. So far I have not found anybody who can do crank balancing for V8 here in Czech republic.

Block after cleaning. The cam bearing are already installed. Crankshaft after machining by 0.01"
New pistons with original rods. Piston rigs are prepared. Layed in order how it will be assembled. Final cleaning with solvent and brake cleaner. Masking job take me about 3 hours and now its ready for blue paint
Engine paint - the color is not original but I used very expensive 2K heat resistant paint. I hope this would be the right choice for long lasting engine look. Mixing the paint with hardener nad reducer I used about 0.3 liter of paint for whole block and heads in two layers.
Engine block after two layers of paint. ... and same with heads.

And that's it for 2008.
Next month I will start with body work finally , so something quite interesting on the restoration project.
