August, 2008

I am presenting couple of news in the progress in August.
I have finished some work started last month.
The head lights buckets looks like a new... (compare pictures before and after restoration)
I have used again a standard process

  • Sandblasting
  • Use putty on some places
  • Paint with epoxy primer
  • And top acrylic coat in black
  • Before ... And the result, nice isn't it...

I have done some small work on other parts.
In detail I cleaned rear taillights, molding over the door openings , and brushed the old paint on the front bumper. I have also measured all break system tubing length.

Rear tail lights. I have cleaned it remove residues of old black paint. The inner side of the chrome molding should be painted black for correctness of 71 and 72 Mach 1 style. Removed urethane bumper cover . I have brushed the color with sandpaper wheels

As the weather conditions were still good I do one of the last snadblasting jobs outside. Completely cleaded the bumper metal core, engine pulleys a lot of fasteners, door hinges and headline rods.

The studying job is even more important than physical restoration work. I was gathering a lot of information around Internet and literature about the car original look, engine parameters and sourceing the new parts. Fortunately the US cars and US markets are big enough that can support nearly all piece of the car in aftermarket solution. And its not even expensive. I can hardly get all these parts for an european one so easily. The only bad thing is the expensive transport charges and Custom taxes to Europe which are nearly doubling the purchase price.

So in September a made a lot if purchases of new parts in US.

    Engine parts.
I ordered first set of parts from Summit racing . As I want to have it quick , I used an air transport through US postal. The total weigh of this one was about 25kgs. The engine parts consist of new 4.03 inch Hypereutectic pistons, crank 0.01 inch bearings, new rod bearings and cam bearings. New Comp Cams High Energy camshaft, lifter set, timing chain set, valve springs from Comp Cams as well and all new exhaust and intake valves, New Fel Pro gasket set and new oil pump. I expect the engine power will be around 300 HP with this settings.

The package just after I take it from Post office.
New pistons Sealed Power Hypereutectic Flat bore 4.003" .It will mildly increase the compression. New Camshaft Comp Cams High Energy 268H.
High Energy Timing chain set. New valve springs from Comp Cams

I have purchased a body sheet metal parts at Mustangs unlimited. But as it is too heavy I was looking for a container sea transport. It will take couple of week to arrive here in Europe.
As the winter time is coming I also started to think of a new heating system in my workshop to be able to work on the car during this cold period.
